I finally found this building in London, it’s a shame it looks abandoned now. For anyone who doesn’t know, it’s the old Necropolis Railway building. Also some other interesting buildings I found.

  1. As someone else has said, it’s for sale. Shame a lot of the original features are gone, would be curious to have seen what it looked like before. If you’re interested, dig around for the planning documents for it on the lambeth council planning website – somewhere on there is a report about the history of the building, presumably required for if you’re applying to change an old building. That had some old photos (not of every detail of the building though) and lots of info.

  2. Nice that Marie’s is still open. Very, very few cafés of that ‘formica’ type left in London.

  3. Oh yeah quite a striking building WBH, 3 mill actually seems surprisingly cheap so I’m guessing it needs a LOT of work

  4. Ghost – busters !

Edit – I know it’s Ghostbusters, but the song is in my head.

  5. This is Waterloo, right? I love morbid history, and I love how London is full of it 🙂

  6. Calling Jago Hazzard … check out his most excellent YouTube channel dedicated mainly to London transport and lame jokes.

  7. The whole evolution of London cemeteries is fascinating, as the city grew as did the need for burials. The Victorians took this to a new level with these great cemeteries such as Highgate & Brompton.

As part of the HS2 project they relocated 50,000 skeletons from a graveyard in Euston. There was a BBC programme about it[1] and also some of the graves in Birmingham.

If you look at an aerial view of Waterloo you can still see the remnants of the siding to this building.
