  1. I cancelled a trip to a country one time, didn’t make the news. Questions being asked when requesting a visa or crossing an international border…….as somebody who’s been to places like Transnistria, Western Sahara and Abkhazia, I can only shake my head at this crap.

  2. Tourism from the EU to the US is down. Their airlines are fearing recession. We should be doing our part to show our disapproval of the current administration. The US only understands $$$$. It’s not pure hysteria. Especially when they are openly supporting Nazi shit.

  3. It’s not just about the possibility of being detained, it’s not just about the willful disregard for United States laws and the right to due process… it’s about the utter cruelty that so many Americans are inflicting on whomever the Trump regime picks next.

  4. I’m cool with this: less flights = less carbon emissions

  5. Finally the world will see how awful and stressful the whole Visa thing is…

  6. I need to at some point get hearing aids from america and I’m not gonna risk going there so its gonna be a fun four (?) years

  7. Had this conversation internally a few weeks ago. We’ve been applying for funding to go to a major conference in the US for the past three years. 2026 was probably the year we would get the funding for. We won’t be applying.

If they can “mistakenly” deport people to El Salvador, and detain people for weeks – fuck ’em. US made their bed, time for the rest of the world to stick up two middle fingers and let them fight amongst themselves.

  8. Most of my friends cancelled their America trips this year, and are opting for other countries. I was planning on going to Chicago myself, but decided to use the money I saved for that Chicago trip, and use it for a European holiday this year. Just went on it last week and loved it and Do not regret it. I Had an amazing time and a hell of a lot cheaper than my original plans. So much so that I can actually afford another trip with those savings later this year.

I do want to go to Chicago someday but I would rather spend my money in countries not run by fascists and bigots. Maybe In 4 years with any luck.

  9. These sound like junkets. Is there any reason to have these in person rather than video conferences? I mean these are the same people constantly reminding us about the climate emergency. But hey, we’re more important than you.

  10. Australian here, I have been invited to present at a conference in Vegas in September.

I have politely declined, as have all of the people I know in the industry.

  11. Going to Vegas for a conference next week. If you don’t hear from me, assume the obvious 💪😤

  12. A brain drain is one of the first things that happens when conservative, authoritarian regimes get into power. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of Yank scientists, engineers and intellectuals bouncing for Europe and Asia over the next few years.
