Deputy Prime Minister
Alexander Novak held a meeting with Iranian Minister of Petroleum Mohsen
Paknejad ahead of the 18th meeting of the Permanent Russian-Iranian
Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

The parties discussed the implementation of key infrastructure projects in the energy sector, which are
under the special control of the presidents of Russia and Iran.

“Iran remains a reliable
strategic partner of Russia. Relations between the two countries are
consistently progressing and expanding in all the key areas of cooperation.
Iran is Russia’s only partner beyond the CIS that has a high status at three
international organisations. The country is a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and BRICS, and also
has observer status in the Eurasian Economic Union. In January 2025, an essential milestone event took place in relations between Russia and Iran. The two
countries’ presidents signed a new basic international treaty, which for the first time officially enshrined the strategic nature of Russian-Iranian
partnership. The treaty sets out the key principles for the further development
of Russian-Iranian relations, including in the fuel and energy sector,”
Alexander Novak said.

The parties
also noted the two countries’ successful cooperation within the OPEC+ group and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum.

“We believe
that Russia will continue to play a stabilising role in achieving balance in the global energy markets as part of cooperation within OPEC+,” Mohsen Paknejad
emphasised.

Alexander
Novak noted that Russia was ready to assist in expanding trade and economic
ties between the EAEU and Iran.

The parties also expressed
their readiness to continue working on joint projects to create new overland gas corridors from Russia to Iran.
