Swedish broadcaster, SVT, has confirmed its intention to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 if KAJ were to win for Sweden in this year’s contest.

A representative of SVT, Anton Glanzelius, has confirmed in an interview with Sveriges Radio that the contest would be held in Sweden next year in the scenario that the country would win in Basel. Swedish representatives, KAJ, are currently one of the favourites to win Eurovision 2025 according to bookmakers, which has raised questions about the willingness of the Swedish broadcaster to host the contest, as the last time was as recently as last year.

Glanzelius was also asked about the possibility of Finnish broadcaster, Yle, hosting next year’s contest or organizing the contest together with SVT, since KAJ originally comes from the Swedish-speaking parts of Finland. He dismisses the idea and states that the contest would be organized solely by SVT.

Sweden has won Eurovision a total of seven times and has hosted the contest as many times. Another Swedish victory would be the their eighth, surpassing Ireland as the country with the most wins in the contest. The contest has been hosted three times in Stockholm (1975, 2000, 2016), three times in Malmö (1992, 2013, 2024), and one time in Gothenburg (1985).

KAJ will represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with “Bara bada bastu”. This will be the first Swedish Eurovision entry to be sung completely in Swedish since 1998 and the first Eurovision entry in Swedish since 2012. KAJ will perform sixth in the first semi-final on May 13. Learn more about the group here:
