Neutrality has pros and cons. There are also grey areas where neutrality can have different degrees of…neutrality -example: Sweden or Spain on WW2.
However, the kicker can be this: in 1940, the Dutch government thought that neutrality would be a good policy. The result was that no one trusted them and they couldn’t get the weapons they needed to defend themselves more effectively. Sure, it would have only meant delaying the Germans, but it could have saved Dutch lives and killed more Germans. Killing those Germans at the time would have had the benefit of causing more problems for them later in the war. So, neutrality can have a price. Friendly nations might not trust you and your defense will be more expensive.
Neutral on Genocide and War Crimes? As if there is a debate? Pfft. Do better for Ukraine than that please.
neutrality is only an option for countries which are naturally well defended and/or are not next to an aggressor country and are not of strategic significance. Otherwise any neutrality is just portayed as weakness and such countries get just occupied and are pulled to the war. So when talking about neutrality and considering pros and cons, consider that for some countries its just not possible.
Let’s say Ukraine war would not exist or somehow Russia would be justified in doing what was doing (obviously it’s not i just want to go with the worst case scnario and still prove how neutrality it’s just russia’s lie made for divide and conquer) .
Beside the point , before this very war , Ukraine was a neutral country and for this reason there was nobody there to defend it i also remember about my neighbor country Moldova . You can’t get more neutral than that . Result ? For almost 30 years , russian occupation troops stay in Transnistria(part of Moldova) . You can’t stay neutral in this world , or maybe you do if you’re some nation in Pacific (but then you’d still need allies for fighting the upcoming water level increase ) . Neutrality is just a nice looking facede created by expanding empires stuck in the imperialistic past where they just want to isolate their future enemies from a reliable alliance . I guess we all know what would happen the first day Taiwan declares neutrality ( or US does on Taiwan matters) . Neutrality is a asset , if a asset at all given by one’s enemies not by one self .
