If I shut down my kitchen and sell it for scrap then I’ll make a “profit” or at least a “saving” if I then intend to not buy food.

This doesn’t account for the cost associated with pissing people off, lawsuits, destroying people’s lives, destroying entire sectors of the economy, and making us the laughing stock of the entire planet. Those costs alone probably outpace the “savings”, so we have actually spent a whole lot more than $160B at this point.

It isn’t about saving money. It’s about the Twitter Guy removing or crippling agencies that were investigating his businesses, and firing people was just its beard.
And the $160 billion in savings is also DOGE math. It’s probably closer to $160 million.
The cost doesn’t include the estimated half trillion in uncollected taxes that the IRS agent reduction has cost the US.
The maths math because now the skoady musk can earn 11b before he owes a cent of tax to the American treasury. Can you imagine not having to pay tax because you lost money on a deal, with yourself? No, it doesn’t work that way for me either. I’m a pleb so I suck it up and take responsibility for my choices.
Also wasn’t it proven that the first $80B they said they saved was like… $8B because most the contracts they “cancelled” were already lapsed?
And a lot of the cuts will have long-term consequences, such as weather prediction, medical research (cancer, Alzheimers), etc…
