  1. It’s certainly reasonable to suspect betrayal by an insider: they are russian, after all.

    But whether it’s true or not, this helps ratchet up the mistrust and paranoia at the upper levels of russian leadership.

    (Folks on r/Ukraine know exactly what russian leadership just did.)

    A vitally important measure to take, when you risk being assassinated by

    a) the secret espionage service of the enemy country you invaded, who were supposed to be defeated in 3 days, and is supposed to not even exist as a real country, but still somehow remains undefeated and has the capacity to kill you;

    b) the people of your own country who hate your government and are fighting against it from within;

    c) your own colleagues who support your government, but just don’t like you personally; or

    d) a combination of any or all of the above working together.

    At no time however should you ever consider the even more sensible measure of asking yourself: is this line of work actually worth it?

  4. Grift and loyalty depends on giving out slices of pie. Putin has a slice of pie problem so he orders some redistribution and some maneuver into it for themselves..

  6. Well, if he was considering a peace deal, the Putin Administration could well turn on him.

    Or even confirmation that Putin is dead and we are all living with his body double. If it IS his body double, then his body double does NOT have authority to sign peace deals, nor would he know the Nuke Codes. Also, Trump and all of his cronies are nicely conditioned to obey Putin, not a body double.

    It’s very hard to believe that Putin would trust anybody enough to hand over the nuke codes while alive. It’s one way he would ensure he is needed. Of course if he’s dead, the nukes are lumps of metal left to rust.
