The Oregonian/OregonLive Editorial Board framed the opponents of PGE’s Harborton Reliability Project as motivated by fear of change, (“Editorial: Portland City Council misses the forest for the trees,” April 20). The board was right, but it neglected to mention what kind of change. It is climate change that we fear.
The movement to stop the unnecessary logging of mature trees and the destruction of two wetlands is motivated by an intellectually and morally honest concern that our society will do exactly as you describe and continue with the same old practice of destroying our planet so we can power our computers. It appears to me that the editorial board needs to do its homework on the value of mature forest and intact habitat if we are to have any hope of surviving climate change.
