Good for them. Not like he would add anything.
Oh no, not the COP30 talks… let’s be honest after the last two years of it being held in oil producing countries, is anyone expecting anything out of COP, Trump snub or not?
For example, COP28 only called for a “transition” away from fossil fuels, not a firm phase-out, not that any of the language would be binding.
COP29 agreed on $300 billion per year for developing countries, but this is far less than the $1.3–2 trillion needed, and dwarfed by the $5–7 trillion in annual fossil fuel subsidies globally. Again non-binding pledges that are unlikely to be fully funded.
At best they are a dialogue session that as long as you expect no action from you won’t be disappointed. Trump or no Trump makes little to no difference.
I cannot control politicians, industry or billionaires. But I have chipped away at my own 30 tons of CO2. Gardening, planting trees, dramatically reducing the energy I use, and heating with a rocket mass heater. No sacrifice – everything is about making a better life AND it happens to chip away at my CO2. I think I am now in the space of chipping away CO2 for others.
