WILLEMSTAD – Representatives from Curaçao, the Netherlands, research institute TNO, and various industry organizations met between April 14 and 16 to work on the next steps of the island’s hydrogen development program, the Curaçao government announced on Monday.

The collaboration began in May 2023 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding focused on sustainable energy development. In 2024, the partnership was further expanded through a Framework Agreement outlining hydrogen research and demonstration projects.

According to the government, Curaçao aims to establish its own green hydrogen production capacity and position itself as a strategic hydrogen hub in the Caribbean region, with the additional goal of becoming a supplier to the Netherlands.

Dutch industry organizations and TNO’s “Solution Space” methodology are also supporting the island’s ambitions.

“The next concrete step is the realization of an initial showcase project, which will serve as the foundation for further scaling up the hydrogen value chain,” the government stated.
