Berlin. The number of crimes recorded by the police fell for the fifth year in a row in 2021, to a total of around five million cases. With a decrease of 4.9 percent compared to the previous year, the development this time was even more significant than in 2020, which was also overshadowed by the Corona pandemic. The number of violent crimes registered also fell significantly by 6.8 percent compared to the previous year, as further revealed in the police crime statistics for 2021 presented in Berlin on Tuesday.

The number of reported residential burglaries, which had already declined in 2020 due to the partially harsh lockdown measures and travel restrictions, fell again by 27.7 percent to 54,236 cases. On the other hand, the number of crimes committed via the Internet increased.

The police crime statistics for 2021 also show an increase in trafficking in depictions of sexual abuse of children. One reason for this trend, according to the data, is that children and young people – often without knowing that this is prohibited – share and thus distribute child and youth pornographic images in group chats, for example via WhatsApp, Instagram or Snapchat.

According to the statistics, the number of recorded narcotics offenses fell slightly in 2021, by 1.3 percent to 361,048 cases. However, the trend varied by drug. Police authorities noted an increase for heroin, cocaine and crack, as well as LSD, while the number of police-recorded cases involving cannabis and amphetamines decreased.

  2. Obviously, the pro-Putin car parade did not make it into this statistic!

I understand, democracy is democracy. I just can’t stand people cheering for RuZZian Hitler.
