  1. > Speaking to supporters, Carney declared, “Canada now finds itself at a hinge moment of history”. “Our old relationship of integration with the US is now over. We are over the shock of the American betrayal,” he said.

    > Carney further warned, “America wants our land, our resources, our water, our country. These are not idle threats.”

    > “President Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us. That will never, ever happen,” he said. The Prime Minister also declared that his upcoming talks with Trump would focus on negotiating a fair economic and security relationship. “This is Canada, and we decide what happens here,” Carney asserted. “We will fight back with everything we have to get the best deal for Canada.”

Pretty powerful words coming from Carney. I’m sorry it had to come to this, many of us in the US didn’t want this either.

  2. Sad to see one of our strongest alliances broken after all this time, we’re gonna miss working with you Canada

But I get it. It’s another of so many things Trump has cost this country, more damage we’re probably never going to be able to rebuild

  3. I’m adding “Canada joins EU” to my 2026 bingo card.

  4. It will require some foundational restructuring to pull off a good transition away from the US and develop/execute on new ones with the EU, JP, UK, and AUNZ – but at least Carney is plausibly the best person to do so given his resume. Trust is gone for a generation or three… utterly unnecessarily tragic.

  5. It only took Trump 3 months to screw up a strong economy and strong alliances.

  6. The comments I want to make would cause a knock on my door.

  7. Canada needs to protect itself and move forward while America just sits in the sandbox with the orange crybaby dictator throwing tantrums and issuing threats.

  8. Our international relations only stand to benefit from distancing ourselves from the US. Im hopeful for our countries future for the first time in a long time.

  9. Start harmonising automotive standards with Europe and unleash all the superminis and cute lil hatchbacks, PM Carney!!

  10. “We are over the shock of the American betrayal”

I know it was naive of me, but I hoped we could get 47 removed from office before the damage really sank in. We didn’t. This fucking sucks.

Fuck every single person who voted for this clown. Especially the boomers who enjoyed the 80 years of the post WWII world order. They have damned the younger generations for decades.

  11. I’m American and I approve this message. Looking forward to a different future. Sorry we aren’t a reliable partner.

  12. Does this mean we can bring back boxing day sales and block black Friday sales completely?

  13. I’m really happy for this big Canada win, it sucks watching it in the US though where we are getting worse by the day. I hope we can do better one day.

  14. Well, America, we had a decent run. When even our polite neighbors up north (who are practically our brothers) say we’ve gone too far, I think an extra-deep gut check is in order. Oh, I harbor no illusion that such self-reflection will happen. We all knew the US was on the downward slope of empire, but most of us thought it was going to be a relatively gentle slope with time to adjust as opposed to what we got: crashing head-long into a brick wall at full speed; all gas, no brakes.

  15. The inevitable MX, EU & China trade deal is going to make Trump shit his pants

  16. I hate to see you go, Canada. But you’re doing the right thing.

  17. I’m sorry Canada,

I (along with millions of others) didn’t want this

  18. Canada and USA experiemce now what Poland and Hungary did for the past years.
Over 1000 years of friendship ended cuz of one Putin-ass licking individual.

  19. Carney just told Trump that he is just not that into Trump anymore

  20. As an American I fucking hate this. Absolutely unnecessary, caused by the greed of one obese orange fuckstain. Good on Canada to stand for themselves though.

  21. The key here is to not rejoin if they get a new president one day.

That country needs to be punished.

  22. Canadians are selling their winter homes in the US, they are concerned about traveling over the boarder and feel they aren’t welcome in the US by the federal government. i

  23. If you told me this time last year that Canada of all countries would be antagonistic to the U.S and I’d be on their side, I’d think “what are you on about”

    Yet here we are

  24. As a Canadian I feel worse for Americans.  Both our options for leaders this election would have been competent and done reasonably well and had the right priorities.

We will make sure over the next few months to take care of each other and work together , I don’t know if the US is going to be able to say the same when the really heavy repercussions of destroying its own economy start to impact it’s people.

  25. A lot of people just aren’t getting this either. This is not a “the next four years” thing. How is *any* country with half a brain going to ever trust the US again? If this happened once, with everything that is in place right now, what stops it from happening again?

Donald Trump is solely responsible for the end of the American role in the global theater from here out.

  26. As a Canadian we love our fellow North Americans minus the ones who have what I think most would actually define as trump derangement syndrome. We hope you can save yourselves from the monster you’ve made your bed with

  27. I like how they want suggest the entire population of canada is 1 state instead of splitting canada into multiple states based on representation which would make sure Republicans would never win again.

  28. It struck me he has until today been fairly careful in what he said I presume with the run up to the elections. This is a bold outright statement

  29. As a Detroiter, my love for Canada is that of a brother. I fucking hate this, man.
