State media KCNA reported that North Korea conducted the first test firing of the weapon system of its new “Choe-Hyon-class” of warships earlier this week.
The report stated that artillery and cruise missiles were fired during the test firing attended by Kim Jong Un, his senior officials and other leaders.
Kim said that the time had come for North Korea to decide to accelerate its nuclear armament to ensure maritime sovereignty and national defense.
North Korean state-run media revealed on Saturday the warship weighing 5,000 tonnes and equipped with “the most powerful weapons.”
Kim said in a speech at the launch, reported by KCNA that the warship will be handed over to navy and put into service early next.
