  1. Von der leyen should be barred from all political positions for what she has done,
They help get everyone else banned so why be a hypocrite for her.

  2. And Canada has invited their Doctors and Nurses. The future is looking bleak for the US.

  3. Issue isn’t talent, it’s funding. Unless the EU- across the continent including UK start offering higher salaries and more meaningful research budgets, the response will remain like warm.

  4. Yes but leave their politics at home. We don’t need American Red/Blue shit here.

  5. By paying them salaries that are competitive to what they get in the US, right?

    Right?

  6. So scientists we like, workers from other countries they don’t like?

  7. pfu that was close, i nearly had a heart attack after “to make europe”…was expecting “…great again”.

  8. I completed my PhD in AI in December at a Spanish university. During my PhD, my salary for the first two years was 980€ per month, 1,200€ in the third year, and 1,600€ in the fourth year. It was not enough to cover the cost of living or rent a house, so I had to live at my father’s home.

The salary they offered me to stay at the university as a postdoctoral researcher would never have allowed me to buy a house, or even aspire to anything more than renting a room in a house shared with four other people.

So, in January, I packed all my stuff and moved to San Francisco to work for a US company. Europe has become a place that every scientist and researcher dreams of escaping, not a home. If you want to change that, start by paying people a living wage.

  9. And just like that, immigration suddenly isn’t such a huge emergency concern ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  10. Come here, we will pay 1/10 of your actual salary.

  11. Great, pay them commensurately.

-Someone who knows plenty of people who’ve told me about how awful their Ph.Ds have been in terms of salary, and research in general is just… awful here financially. Why would they come? *Give them a reason.*

  12. How about the EU support their own scientists before inviting others

  13. Maybe have them research important things now instead of measuring poop level in lakes and investigate if cows feel bad about not being outside in the summertime (actual science project in Sweden right good lord).

  14. The European academic system is so precarious and doesn’t have enough funding or posts to absorb all the excess scientists in Europe, let alone in America.

For example, EU funding bodies like the ERC wants to provide extra funding to welcome American scientists. But why would they move all the way to Europe for a three years position, if after that they will be jobless?

They’ll need to come up with a lot of money to provide a permanent position with super attractive salary to be able to attract talents from the US, but don’t forget that there are many European academics who have to quit academia because of the lack of permanent positions, and living your life just applying for grant after grant is rather miserable.

  15. Scientists here are trying to leave europe and you invite others to move in here? Start by paying them double. Their salaries are a complete joke.

  16. If work from home is actually peotected, it’s also a good way to let small towns grow back

  17. This will be one of Yam Tit’s greatest failures. He is actively destroying one  my country’s greatest strengths . Within a decade , the impact will felt everywhere. Absolutely stupid and insane. I’m living in the old ‘What part of Right me would you want to live in?’ question?

    I’m living in the decline.

Sea Steading looks better and better every hour.

And it’s likely to get worse instead of better. The population are cultists, lazy, ignorant, or just stupid. The opposition? Feckless and playing power games with each other.

We’re due for a Dark Age;I wonder if this is the beginning 🤔😞?
