Interesting insight into the fashion habits of the British royal family in comparison to other royal families, and perhaps how it's still in play now.

I always feel bad for Queen Mary. She had MIL who didn’t give her any space and philandering husband.
Edit: confused with queen Mary with Alexandra.
This was an organization her mother, the Duchess of Teck, was heavily involved with. How lovely that Queen Mary continued her mothers hands on support of the guild
That was very nice of her.
This article really is fascinating in that we’re able to see a reference to their German roots. There’s none of that now.
It’s intriguing to imagine Queen Mary’s very distinctive evening gowns being repurposed for “those who have most need for them”—I wonder if that meant impoverished noblewomen and royalties (all the penniless princesses and grand duchesses hanging around after their various revolutions), or actual people in need? Not quite sure what a Cockney pensioner would do with a lilac cut-velvet dinner dress with fur trim, but it’s a fun idea.
