He’s a Tory, of course he’s going to be immoral. That literally goes without saying. Just baffles me why so many working class voters voted for them…
Got to build that war chest to give massive tax cuts just before the next election so the hard of thinking can be fooled again, before going back to a cycle of building a war chest before another year of tax cuts….just before the following election..
“immoral conduct”
I’m pretty sure that’s the current government’s motto.
Sunak worked for Goldman Sachs and became a hedge fund manager. Married into one of the richest families in India.
I guess he had an epiphany one day, that he just wanted to serve the public.
Not sure that the prediction of interest rates tumbling to record lows is correct though- the record low was .1% and we just had it. Interest rates are climbing and the expectation is somewhere around 3% in the next couple of years – so the underlying assumption in the thread isn’t right. Having said that, the behaviour by this government is still represensible – support is given to those least in need. It’s disgraceful
Unfortunately, this government is getting away with the scummiest behaviour and there is basically no effective opposition. Kier Starmer is almost non-existent and the only time I ever notice Labour is when Angela Rayner steps up as deputy. I wish Kier would step aside for her because, no matter how fine a leader he might or might not be, like Ed Milliband, he doesn’t have that podium-thumping presence that will make people actually pay attention.
And until anyone is paying attention, the Tories can screw us left, right and centre (and are doing so) with impunity.
Toff boy can’t even use a credit card, how can he relate to normal tax paying people.
What was that joke about a billionaire, a blue collar worker and an immigrant having 10 biscuits, the billionaire taking 9 biscuits and whispering to the blue collar worker “careful, that immigrant is about to steal your biscuit”.
No idea why people expect anything different while they vote for the party of the billionaires and aristocracy because they are tough on immigrants.
The even funnier thing is that they don’t even cut immigration (because this ageing country cannot function without immigration), they just make the right noises and have more cruel policies around asylum seekers.
If you don’t believe me go check the net immigration figures. EU migration down 80%, rest of the world up 80%. The Tories let nearly 2million people in since the Brexit vote. And that’s a good thing as far as I’m concerned, but I’m not sure their voter base would be pleased. Particularly as these people have darker skin than the Poles.
Look, his job is to balance the books. If he’s giving away billions to his mates, he’s got to find it from somewhere. I dont know what all the fuss is about.
For the love of jeebus, won’t SOMEBODY think of the billionaires?!!
anyone who voted conservative deserves to get fucked
Im am American and subscribe to this sub to learn more abt the UK. You guys have the Tories, we have the GOP. I’m just so sad for our world.
“It is better to let a hundred go hungry than let one be given something they do not deserve.” — a paraphrase of someone smarter than me (not sure who; it’s in my head, but I can’t remember where I got it), mimicking the Conservative mindset.
… In fact I can imagine Thatcher actually saying it in that voice of hers. It wouldn’t surprise me if she actually said it.
Anyway, there’s also the matter of the interpretation of the word “deserve” because there’s a whole lot of subjectivity in that one word.
And they get to decide that interpretation as well.
It’s both infuriating and depressing at the same time.
This party is a corrupt joke… But unfortunately I can’t see a replacement on the horizon – some sane voice of mainstream conservatism is needed, whether that comes from within the Tory party (unlikely in the short term), or some new entity.
Why give a million people on benefits £100, when you can give one Russian party donor £100 million?
What’s with the recent narrative shift from Rishi being the PM in waiting to being absolutely eviscerated daily
Here’s a really hard question…
Do you want the Tories to win the next GE?
If Sunak really does help those in need he’s potentially bought their vote. Have a look for example at Orban and Kaczynski they’ve shown how voters can be bought.
What do rich people get by capping help money for poor people? Does giving poor help money cap their own rich people money? I don’t get it.
I don’t have any fucking clue what most of this means. Can anyone with a wiser head provide a summary and perhaps an opinion as to whether it’s accurate, please?
The problem is this requires additional borrowing, who covers the borrowing? the tax payers who are already heavily burdened.
People will need to be taxed more, but elections are soon so no more borrowing
Fuck Rishi Sunak. Fuck billionaires. Tax them out of existence.
Sunak is a millionaire married to a billionaire, who got the job because his predecessor took a stand against being rule by proxy by Dominic Cummings. I’m not surprised, I am disappointed that this is what he chooses to do.
The inability to just admit that much of Brexit was and is a lie would help move this forward. The UK’s economy will continue to contract and the EU’s will continue to expand. There are 27 of them and one of us. And the US is looking to the EU while they pivot to the Pacific more and more. I get why many voted for Brexit but I am not sure they voted for where the Uk is now and where it is inexorably heading.
Sweetie the entire premise of this article is that interest rates are “guaranteed to fall”.
Is this guy a moron or something? Interest rates are zero percent. They will not get lower. This is the only time in human history where interest rates have ever been anything below 5% and you expect them to get lower?
I don’t have the expertise to comment on whether the analysis is correct, although I am inclined to believe it based upon the typical conduct of the current government. What I really can’t get my head around, however, is why the fuck Rishi Sunak even cares enough to play these horrific games? He and his wife have hundreds of millions of pounds worth of assets, they could literally buy an island and live happily ever after indulging in their every fantasy, so what drives him to carry out such horrific schemes that screw over millions of people just to help his party win another election?
> I posted this Twitter thread yesterday. As it was actually written on Twitter I do not have a text version to share:
I find it really hard to motivate myself to read such a low-effort, fragmented presentation, so I miss out on a possibly-enlightening article. IMO this is not a good way to get the message across. So I end up simply scrolling through some diverse reddit comments which evaporate into diverse personal opinions of unknown credibility. And eventually I give up and move on to the next interesting post (whales, drones, disasters, …) on my homepage.
I think I should go back to reading serious newspapers.
I wish instead of hoarding money, the goverment people help all young couples to pay the deposit off for their first house. We sure could use help, and we only want a modest home to pay a monthly mortgage to. With these rising bills costs which are skyrocketing, that dream is slipping between our fingers like sand.
The fact a man with a net worth of 3 billion pounds is supposed to represent common people is absurd.
More to the point is why people in full time work can’t pay bills.
“Those in need” is a black hole that no level of public financing will ever full.
They’re saving as much as they can so that come the budget before the election they can splurg out and fool the people into thinking that they give shit
Got to line Tory chums pockets. Their needs outweigh those of the poor.
