LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Tilman Fertitta, the owner of the Golden Nugget resorts in Nevada, has been confirmed as President Donald Trump’s ambassador to Italy.
The U.S. Senate voted 83-14 in favor of Fertitta’s appointment to be ambassador to the Italian Republic and the Republic of San Marino.
U.S. Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, D-Nevada, joined the majority in confirming the nomination.
Fertitta’s company owns the Golden Nugget resort chain, which includes the hotel-casinos in Las Vegas, Laughlin and Stateline.
The billionaire also had been spearheading a new resort on the Las Vegas Strip and became a principal shareholder in Wynn Resorts earlier this year.
Trump first announced Fertitta as his pick for the ambassadorship in December during the transition period.
Fertitta informed federal officials last month that he planned to resign as CEO of his company if confirmed to avoid any potential conflicts of interest.
