Problem with the news is that there’s always a problem. Whether that be here or abroad. It’s a constant cycle of woe
You can do this yourself by just listening to music and ignoring the news
According to Wikipedia here are some things that actually happened on April 18, 1930:
– 118 people died in a fire in Romania, many of them schoolchildren.
– Bangladeshi revolutionaries raided a British armory in what was then British India, resulting in 17 deaths on both sides.
– A typhoon in Philippines caused extensive damage.
It’s no wonder everybody is so anxious when we hear about every single bad thing that happens in the world within minutes of it happening, with many events sensationalised.
Today we’d get “there’s too much news, and it’s all horrible, so we’re not going to bother”.

Sounds like an early attempt to hide bad news.
That would be brilliant
“all quiet on the western front” type story

What a good day it must have been.
The radio. It’s too close to the stove.
