Main Luxembourg-Ukrainian Association calls for severing all commercial ties with Russia

  1. After the images coming out of Bucha and other places in Ukraine, I am not sure how anyone can be neutral anymore. We are seeing a sickening attack on Ukrainian civilians.

Yes, oil and gas are the most important Russian exports, and sadly, individuals generally cannot impact the purchase of these items (but you can impact your government through democratic means).

Here is the statement from LUkraine:

A hundred demonstrators gathered outside the Russian Embassy in Luxembourg on Saturday to demand an end to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The protest calls against Russian aggression in Ukraine and against Russia’s presence in Europe – diplomatic, business or
    cultural:
    – Stop the war!
    – Stop killing people, stop raping Ukrainian women!
    – Stop the genocide of the Ukrainian nation!
The Russian war machine now draws its strength from its economy. Every business decision made in support of trade with Russia strengthens the position of the military aggressor. It allows Russia to continue to grossly violate the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of Ukraine.
**We firmly condemn the maintaining of commercial ties with Russia and believe that trade with Russia must be stopped immediately. Doing business with a country that has initiated hostilities has to be considered economic warfare with the entire democratic world.**

  2. This will be a very unpopular opinion, so feel free to downvote.

I come from a military family (my grandfather fought in ww2 with Russians against Germans, but I try to not be biased) so my outlook is a bit rigid.

War is no romantic movie, and if you arm civilians, the casualties like this are to be expected. From my perspective, I still expect our state as well as representatives of EU to take responsibility for this, they send arms, money to army which doesn’t consist of trained professionals but people like you and me. They send them to idealistic mission unprepared, they thought them how to do molotovs, how to hold the gun, but also how to be an easy target.

And for this I believe people who call for more action, more arms from the comfort of their home powered by Russian gas (or not) have blood on their hands. I hope you realize this.

I am not offering alternatives nor solutions, just a very realistic outlook on what to expect when you do.

  3. Not Russians but russian military and government.
Leave the people that don’t hurt anybody or think bad of anybody out of this.

  4. Very strange how when we talk about Ukraine here, so many people worry about Russians. I wonder if you would have worried about Germans in 1943?

  5. We definitely need to move to other energies stats. By we I mean the EU. It’s insane that we should be hostage to carbon providers, whomever they are.

  6. I am Russian, I have no other passport and I support this move. The lives of Ukrainians are the only priority. Besides a direct military confrontation with other countries (troops, closing the sky) I don’t see how Russia/Putin can be stopped besides the complete economic devastation of Russia that must be sped up. It will affect those not supporting this war including me, my family, and friends, who have never supported Putin and fought as we can against him. But this impact is incomparable to what the people of Ukraine now face. Can we fine-tune economic sanctions? I don’t think it’s the right time to discuss when people losing their lives right now.

I must say I am happy to hear here and there that the free world partially finance(d)s this war. Not only by buying gas, and coal but also by allowing Russia to invest its bloody money, offering a safe place for those who, at this point in time, are war criminals. It is a big step, better be taken late than never, to acknowledge that. The responsibility for this war is on the aggressor’s shoulders, that is Russia, no doubt. Lessons must be learned, though. Next time, the free world must listen to those who oppose authoritarian regimes, must not talk, and must not listen to the mafia and murderers. Putin got away with Georgia, with Crimea, with multiple poisonings and murders, with [purges in Chechnya](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-gay_purges_in_Chechnya) and rightfully concluded that the free world is weak and is ready to cooperate. Visas are (still, I guess) easily issued/not canceled to propagandists, officials, and their families; properties are easily sold to the members of United Russia, etc, etc, etc. But there is a shift, I hope not a temporary one.
