REDDING, Calif. — Professional dancers from Japan visited schools across the Northstate to perform traditional Japanese dances for local students.
They are part of a dance club called Taiko-ren from Nagoya, Japan. They spent the past month touring the Northstate with dance performances in Redding, Humboldt, Fall River and the Burney area. Sequoia Middle School in Redding organized one of the events, bringing hundreds of students from various Redding schools from TK through fifth grade. We spoke to students about what they enjoyed the most about the performance.
“It was incredible. I liked that they had cool dances, and it’s really fun,” said Liberty, a local elementary school student.
The dancers also added what this experience meant to them.
“It was really touching, actually, we felt like almost cried because they had really fun with us,” said Yuho, a dancer at Taiko-ren. “It was a really great experience for them to know our culture, like Japanese culture, Japanese traditional culture yeah, it was really great experience for us.”
Members of Taiko-Ren head back to Japan today, but their visit to the Northstate made for a lasting memory for a lot of local kids.
