WILLEMSTAD – Finance Minister Javier Silvania recently signed a double taxation agreement with Cyprus during his visit to Washington. This agreement aims to prevent double taxation and facilitate economic relations between the two countries. In addition to this, Silvania held the first bilateral administrative meeting with his counterpart from Luxembourg, where concrete steps were taken to initiate negotiations for a similar tax treaty between Curaçao and Luxembourg.
The planned tax treaty with Luxembourg will focus on financial services, including banking and investment funds. According to the Ministry of Finance, Luxembourg, as one of Europe’s key financial and investment hubs, is a strategic partner for Curaçao. The agreement is expected to strengthen Curaçao’s international fiscal position and ease cross-border investments.
Silvania’s visit to Washington D.C. was part of the annual Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. The signing of the treaty with Cyprus and the discussions with Luxembourg are part of Curaçao’s broader efforts to enhance its economic ties and improve its standing in the international financial sector.
