With summer temperatures arriving, Luxembourg’s official swimming season kicks off on 1 May and runs through to 30 September.

From Thursday 1 May onward, outdoor swimming will once again be permitted at a number of natural sites across the country.

In addition to the Upper Sûre Lake (Stauséi), swimming will be allowed at the Wämper Séi in Weiswampach, at Echternach Lake, and in the Remerschen lakes (Baggerweieren).

According to Luxembourg’s Water Management Authority, water quality at these bathing sites is monitored and analysed regularly throughout the season. At the end of last year’s season, water quality was rated “excellent” at the Upper Sûre Lake, in most areas (zones 2–4) of Weiswampach Lake, and in zones 1–3 of the Remerschen lakes. One of the Remerschen lakes (zone 4) was rated “good,” as was zone 1 of Weiswampach Lake and the designated swimming area in Echternach Lake.

A full list of water quality zones and testing points is available on the Water Management Authority’s website.

Also starting Thursday, the open-air swimming pool in Grevenmacher will open its doors for the first time this year at 10am. With forecast temperatures around 25°C, the weather is set to be ideal for the start of the swimming season.
