The 2025 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup begins this week and Italy and Oman battle each other in a Group D match on Friday. Italy has been successful in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, but the country has yet to take home a championship. Italy has finished runner-up three times, including last year when it fell to Brazil 6-4 in the championship match.
“Even though we lost, the final is another good memory. We played a good match against a very big team. Brazil have a lot of great players and champions like Rodrigo, Mauricinho, Catarino. We were a young team and, for a lot of us, it was our first World Cup. We gave them a really tough game, and Brazil gave us a result we can try and reverse this year. It’s a game I’m happy to remember,” said Luca Bertacca.

Italy’s first opponent is an Oman team looking to pull off a huge upset in its first group match of the World Cup.
Oman is playing in its sixth global showpiece. The Asian side is seeking a first qualification to the knockouts after coming up just short in previous editions, including a valiant performance at Dubai 2024 when the country narrowly lost in the group stage to champions Brazil and giants Portugal.
“We are ready to [take the next step] in order to advance to the quarter-finals,” said forward Abdullah Al Sauti to FIFA. “We are an ambitious team. We are ready to face any team and we are confident in our abilities. Our group is a very strong group, and we will fight to advance.”
