WASHINGTON (TNND) — Secretary of the Navy John Phelan on Tuesday announced he had collaborated with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to sign an order canceling a human resources modernization contract.
Phelan’s order cancelled an effort to rework MyNavyHR, an internal human resources and information technology platform. Canceling that initiative, he claimed, would save the Navy $300 million.
“Today I’m signing an order canceling the implementation of an obsolete and redundant online portal the Navy no longer needs,” he said. “Since working with DOGE, the Department of the Navy has saved an estimated $587 million.”
The announcement follows President Donald Trump’s order this week directing DOGE to inspect the Navy and Coast Guard’s shipbuilding efforts, which have repeatedly been completed late and overbudget.
