Jackie Weaver ‘did not have the authority’

  1. >It was revealed earlier this month that investigating the rows at Handforth Parish Council has cost Cheshire East Council more than £85,000.

I suppose it’s only £85k, and is small change in comparison to the billions wasted elsewhere. I’d have been happy to investigate Jackie Weaver’s authority for only £60k.

  2. >…It was revealed earlier this month that investigating the rows at Handforth Parish Council has cost Cheshire East Council more than £85,000…

  3. >>”Faced with what were unusual and difficult circumstances, and the deep-seated issues underpinning those circumstances, we can understand why Jackie Weaver acted as she did, despite her action being without any formal footing in terms of appropriate process and procedure.”

She might not have ‘had the authority’ but I think that meeting would have descended as before, because of former councillors who were breaking the Code of Conduct.

  4. I remember all those yaaasss qweeen type posts on social media at the time when with 5 minutes of research you’d have known she didn’t. 85k?! That’s a scandal.

  5. You don’t need the authority when you are either able to convince others you have it or that you know what you are doing regardless of having it. The person yelling at her lost his cool and effectively lost the authority in the eyes of the rest of the parish, Ms Weaver assumed it by remaining calm in response.

  6. She was the admin for the zoom meeting, so she did in fact have the authority – and she used it.

If she wasn’t supposed to have authority, then why make her the meeting admin?
As only the admin can kick folks out.

Wow, I did that investigation in 2 minutes and it cost nothing. £85k clearly went into someone’s back pocket.

  7. So the BBC turned this unelected busybody into a heroine, WITHOUT knowing any of the facts?

Tell me why I pay my TV licence again

  8. It was so fucking obvious she didn’t. Yet the circlewank about her being empowered or some shit. Probably because she was a woman not going to lie.

She’s a twat who can’t respect the rules of local democracy despite being, given her position at the time, expected to know them. Thats unacceptable and she should not have a job.

  9. >Ms Weaver said: “We were still very vague about how virtual council meetings worked and I did not actually remove them from the meeting, in my opinion, I moved them to the waiting room.

Need to try that in an actual in-person meeting…

“I haven’t left the meeting, in my opinion, I’ve just moved to the break room.”

  10. This is what having a proper functioning civil society looks like, and for that sometimes you have to pay monies.

The alternative is any investigation being curtailed due to “costs” and corruption flourishing.

  11. “I’m sorry Mr elected official but as a middle aged white woman with no formal authority I hereby arbitrarily take punitive action and silence you because of my inherent right and authority as a middle aged white woman” is basically what happened then. Not “I don’t know what I’m doing so I’m unsure what to do or if I should”.

Jackie Weaver is a Karen seemingly but because her victims were middle to senior aged white guys she was deemed to be “sticking it to the man” and was made a minor celebrity by the media.

I think a formal video of Jackie Weaver apologising in person to each person on that call is in order.

Just think of all the other people she’s likely steamrollered in the past in life that wasn’t caught on camera.

  12. How the F did this investigation cost £68K? Don’t they have a book they can look the rules up in and then compare her actions to them?
