Israel strikes near Syrian presidential palace in ‘message’ to Sharaa

1. Suddenly the guy who mentioned those druze attacks near Damascus being instigated by Israel are not so wild and unbelievable as here we have Israel openly inciting sectarian instability in the capital of Syria with ridiculous airstrikes.

   While Israel has already made its mark by moving inwards with its occupied Syrian territory in Golan with the fall of Assad, this is definitely a huge destabilizer for the active Syrian govt.

   Bad for Israel and bad for a Syria that is trying to become close with the west, while Israel is committing atrocities within its borders which will push it closer to Iran. If I was jolani my #1 goal after the strikes in Damascus would be getting defense systems so that never happens again. Maybe that can come through a negotiation with turkey but more likely it will be from Russia through Iran.

2. I’m seeing a lot of posts manufacturing consent to attack Syria in order to “defend the Druze” even though [Druze leadership](https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20250327-lebanon-druze-leader-accuses-israel-of-exploiting-minority-in-syria) don’t want Israel involved in any way.

   It just seems like Smotrich just [laid out the plan](https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/smotrich-fighting-wont-end-until-hundreds-of-thousands-of-gazans-leave-syria-partitioned/) before this current iteration of ‘defense of the Druze’ campaign started.
