French police have shut down a tobacco smuggling operation between Luxembourg and western France. Gendarmes in Calvados department — in Normandy, about 600km west of the Grand Duchy — made the announcement on Tuesday 29 April 2025.

The gendarmerie said that multiple searches had been carried out as part of an investigation into possible trafficking that lasted several weeks.

During the searches, officers found contraband cartons and loose tobacco, a banknote counter, a precision scale and a pellet gun.
