Shrinkflation, anyone else noticed other products doing this lately?

  1. happening for years.

I am still pissed that cadbury snacks changed from 6 squares to 4 rectangles. And the taste is rancid. They used to be like heroin to me, was a staple of my snacking diet.

  2. I have seen many post about it lately.

I have more noticed it on the long term basis.

Just a tip on that product. Looks like it is made by Nestle. They refuse to pull out of Russia so you may want to boycott all their products.

I guess when China gets involved in the war in Ukraine we are going to have to start replacing many products.

  3. I’ve given up buying experience instant coffee, I bought myself a moka pot and it’s working out a lot cheaper, i picked up a big jar of instant €2 from Aldi for visitors and it’s not bad coffee at all.

  4. Loads. Even dog treats are at it, jumbones are about 3/4 the size they were. They phased the stock out of the old ones and left shelves bare for a week or so in case people noticed new SKUs next to the old.

  5. Tesco have been doing it constantly the last year or two. Item will disappear off their shelves for a month, come back three quarters smaller or a quarter more expensive. Their Potato Gratin used to be 2.50 and it’s now 4.00.

  6. Bought a punnet of apples from Tesco last week, been buying the same ones for years and they always had 6 apples. Got home and there were 5. Assumed it was a mistake and thought no more. Went to Tesco yesterday and guess what? They kept the tray the same size, but yes the apples now come in 5s not 6s!

  7. I’ve given up coffee because I just can’t afford it. I now try to squeeze in two morning wanks. Thankfully no shrinkflation there ….yet! 😮

  8. Got a “large” 4 in 1 with beef at the weekend from a chinese, poured it out the tray onto a plate and thought wtf there seems to be less.

Yep, 8 chips in total, one small slice of beef.
Rest was just rice and curry sauce and overall less of that too.

Will never order from there again.

Got Salmon fillets in lidl yesterday, all of them on show to buy where changed to half the width, same length as usual, just like they’d cut one salmon fillet down the middle and sold it as two where before, just only last week, one fillet was the size of the two skinny ones and you’d get two in a pack, so basically half the size now for the same price.

  9. Official response from Nestle:

“Thank you for getting in touch about the recent weight changes to Nescafé Azera and the Nescafé Gold Blend Roastery collection.

To maintain competitive prices and promotions to meet shopper needs, we have decided to re-engineer our pack sizes (less than 10% weight reduction on our cans) on products that have been significantly impacted by rising costs. Nescafé Azera has been highly impacted by the significant pressure to coffee bean prices over the last year, which saw Arabica bean prices increased by 80%, and Robusta had a 70% rise.

Thanks for giving us opportunity to explain our recent product changes to you”

Price rises and size reductions… Going to be seeing more of this soon

  10. We’re the second fattest nation in Europe. It doesn’t seem like it now shrinkflation is for our own good.

  11. Pringles cans is the main one I’ve noticed…..they tried to distract everyone with a new logo and snuck in small cans while no one was looking.
