On May 2, 2025, a special unit of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, in cooperation with the SBU and the Defense Forces of Ukraine, shot down a Russian Su-30 *twin-seater supermaneuverable fighter* in the Black Sea – this was the first destruction of a combat aircraft by a naval drone in the world.

The jet isn’t popping any kind of flares and doesn’t appear to be taking evasive maneuvers. Chances are the crew has no idea there was a missile heading for them before the jet exploded. Superior Russian countermeasures system working as well as one would expect…
We have known for a while like more than 3 months that Ukraine could shoot guided missiles from their drone boats. So we were surprised that Russia only Just reported that Ukraine can shoot guided missiles.
Shame if the pilots survived but at least another airframe is at the bottom of the sea bed
Oh that’s glorious. Just another sector of the warzone in which they can no longer feel safe operating. Fill the ocean with drones, give them nowhere to operate safely.
So if I’m understanding this correctly, the naval drone launched a guided missile that took down the jet? That is truly insane, Russia really pissed off the best weapons engineers on the planet.

Ukraine doing some next level naval combined warfare lately.
Hopefully they can transfer their knowledge to their Baltic, Finnish and Polish counterparts.
