Donald Trump and J. D. Vance continue to make noise about taking over Greenland while suggesting that the Greenlanders should vote for it. I’ll predict right now that the Greenlanders will never voluntarily go along with it.

First of all, they seem much too intelligent to want to be governed by the likes of Trump and Vance. More importantly, Greenlanders currently enjoy, like the citizens of most first-world countries (with the notable exception of the U.S.A.), cradle-to-grave free health care provided and managed by the government. Why would they want to trade that for our mess of a health system?

Lastly, Trump and Vance keep suggesting that they are at risk of attack by somebody and that they could provide better protection from such a threat than Denmark could. The only entity currently threatening Greenland seems to be the U.S.A. in the persons of Trump and Vance. When somebody offers to protect you against harm and threatens harm in the next breath, that resembles a mob protection racket more so than an act of friendship or charity.
