    1) Do france actually put Asylum Seekers in tents or is she refering to the ones who are waiting near the coast to get to us here and didn’t claim Asylum yet

    2) Where would these tents be placed, I can’t imagine locals being happy having an army of migrants camped outside of their country towns/villages

    3) Has there been any actual cost to benefit ratio found or is this just rhetoric

  3. No, put them I’m expensive houses. We have so many to spare. And so much money, it’s not like it’s the poor and working class that are paying for this, the elite will pay the bill.
    We literally have people who can’t afford tents that are sleeping rough.
    Don’t get me wrong, I don’t know what the right answer is, but accepting more when we can’t house them is mad. Expecelly when coming from a safe country with warm dry housing

  5. Hey, English homeless people live in tents, I’d rather see them housed first.

    It’s a ridiculous notion that you can pay some criminals £5k arrive in the UK & get immediate housing & benefits .

    There’s nothing humanitarian about this its a criminal enterprise that exploits the UKs social welfare net.
    Make it less attractive to come & people won’t come

  7. Tents could make suitable temporary accommodation for certain cohorts of  homeless people during the warmer months, say May – September.

    Tents could be effectively deployed beyond the immigrant population too, but as Reform are only really interested in generating rage bait headlines I doubt they’d want to know.

  9. These are asylum seekers.

    We should treat them with respect, pricess their claim promptly and lawfully, deport those who don’t meet the requirements and integrate those who do.

    That mayor ought to thank her lucky stars she wasn’t born in Syria or Somalia.

  11. I’m not opposed to the idea, if it’s fenced off and they provide water etc, people go camping for fun all the time in the uk.

    Does she even know what an “illegal immigrant is”? Normally they are students and tourists who have overstayed their visa.
