Despite remaining shy of officially confirming his participation in this summer’s EuroBasket 2025, Luka Doncic is expected to suit up for Slovenia.

ESPN recently reported on the summer plans of the Ljubljana native, noting he will be accompanied by Slovenian national team strength coach Anze Macek and physiotherapist Javier Barrio Calvo, focusing his efforts on the senior national team of his country during the offseason.

Directly at the senior level and immediately emerging as a leading player with Slovenia, he won a gold medal in the EuroBasket 2017 at the age of 18. He went on to play in the Olympic Games 2020, the EuroBasket 2022, the FIBA World Cup 2023, and last summer’s FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Greece, in a quick turnaround from the 2024 NBA Finals.

Therefore, Doncic opting in for international action was a safe bet, even before the Los Angeles Lakers were forced to an early exit from the 2025 NBA Playoffs presented by Google. However, a back injury and an illness during a best-of-seven series against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Quarterfinals of the Western Conference raised concerns.

Bouncing back from a midseason trade, his efforts with the Lakers translated into 28.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks per contest over 33 appearances between the Regular Season and the Playoffs.

He previously averaged 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 7.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game over 22 appearances with the Dallas Mavericks to start his seventh journey in the league based in North America.
