Switzerland is ready for the Ice Hockey World Championship in Denmark and Sweden. 28 hours after beating Finland 8:2, the Swiss beat the Czech Republic 5:3 at the tournament in Brno.

The World Championship begins next Friday in Herning (DEN) with another game against the Czech Republic.

Especially those players who were fighting for the last tickets in the World Championship team showed strong performances. Simon Knak scored two goals and one assist. Tyler Moy scored one goal and one assist. Dario Rohrbach scored. And defender Dominik Egli scored two goals. None of them had ever played in a World Cup before.

13 goals in 2 games

How should we classify this perfect World Cup dress rehearsal from a Swiss perspective? 13 goals against Finland and the Czech Republic – the world champions of 2022 (Finland) and 2024 (Czech Republic). And that just before the World Cup in Herning (Denmark) and Sweden. In the past, scoring goals was usually seen as Switzerland’s Achilles heel, even at successful World Cup tournaments.

The Swiss results were not only outstanding because of the numerous goals. National coach Patrick Fischer’s team has been allowed to take part in the Euro Hockey Tour (instead of Russia) for three years now. The only two wins at the same tournament came two years ago, also in Brno, with victories over Finland (2:1) and the Czech Republic (3:2). Back then, the Swiss even won their only tournament at this level. This time, the two victories were only enough for second place behind the superior Swedes (3 wins).

Trailing at first

As against Finland, the Swiss also fell behind first against the Czech Republic. Within 19 minutes, Dominik Egli (2) and Simon Knak turned the game around to 3:1. After the Czechs scored the final goal, Tyler Moy and Dario Rohrbach secured the victory with two more goals within five minutes in the final period to make it 5:2.
