Norwegian folks – What’s your thoughts?

Interestingly, the initial plan in first phase only apply to overnight visitors, meaning cruise passengers, day-trippers, and camper vans using public areas for free overnight stays would not contribute.

  1. About damn time. They’ve been talking about doing this for ages.

  2. Nah, they should all pay. Camper van people should pay more for sure but the day trippers on hikes leave so much garbage and literal bodily waste everywhere that it’s revolting. They should pay as well. Cruise liners should be banned altogether.

  3. We should tax every piece of shit tourists take on peoples properties and every traffic jam caused too.

  4. Its easy to identify people who stay in a hotel or in a cruise liner. They already pay for their accommodation anyway so in other European countries the tourism tax is just added to someone’s bill. This works well.

It would be possible to tax people who stay at an organized commercial camping site for the same reason.

But its going to be far more difficult to impose a tourist tax on people who go wild camping or who use a camper van or a caravan. They’re not paying to stay somewhere anyway so enforcing the tax is going to be much more difficult. Of course some kind of enforcement is possible, but the problem would be making sure that it is effective enough that there is an incentive to pay, but the costs of enforcement aren’t excessive.

It might be possible to add a tax to camper van rentals. But then there are all the vans that drive over the border. Possible to tax them as they drive in but then we’d probably have to pay people to collect the tax.

  5. Every tourist should be taxed from the second they cross our border. It’s out of control.

  6. Everything in Norway is taxed already, vat road tax and more. I don’t like to give anyone ideas for more taxes.

But I think we should consider taxing people from UK, US and Türkiye for visas as they tax us.

  7. Too little, too late, but a step in the right direction. Here’s hoping we go a lot further.

  8. Its a bad proposal, its too weak.

Tourists (especially cruise shippers) should get like a 30-50% tax and it should be national

  9. Hope this doesn’t apply to Norwegian citizens? Only foreign tourists?

  10. There’s no efficient way to tax those category of people. It will end up costing more for implementation anyway.

Just tax those who are easy to tax (staying in hotels, airbnb, etc).
