Greece has once again been recognized for its cultural heritage, winning the title of “Best Historical Attractions – International” in the 2025 Leisure Lifestyle Awards, conducted by leading U.S. travel magazine Global Traveler.

This marks the fourth consecutive year Greece has received the honor, underscoring its continued appeal among premium leisure travelers. Now in its 13th year, the awards program celebrates excellence in global leisure and lifestyle travel, with winners selected through an open reader survey.

“Our readers recognize the best in the travel industry, which is why these distinctions are so highly valued,” said Francis X. Gallagher, Publisher and CEO of FXExpress Publications, Inc.

Santorini: Europe’s best island

Greece was not the only standout: Santorini was named “Best Island in Europe” for the 12th consecutive year, reaffirming its strong international appeal despite recent seismic activity. To build on this momentum, the Municipality of Thira and the South Aegean Region are actively promoting the island to sustain its top-tier status.

Award winners will be honored on May 22 at a ceremony in Miami, where Greece will be represented by Konstantinos Harokopos, head of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) office in the US.

The survey ran from September 2024 to January 2025, covering 67 categories in luxury and lifestyle travel.

Global Traveler reaches nearly 550,000 high-income readers, half of whom are business owners or executives.
