Sir Keir Starmer is right to defend the UK government’s pursuit of “net zero” carbon emissions (Report, April 30). Indeed, we should be doing more. Britain led the way during the industrial revolution and must take the lead in the green revolution that is currently under way.
Of course, it is not without cost but this should be seen as an investment in knowledge and expertise that we can eventually export to the rest of the world. The recent collapse in the power grids of Spain and Portugal clearly illustrates the complexity of having a grid dominated by renewable energy sources and the old ways of running grids are rapidly becoming obsolete.
The simple truth is that if we and the rest of the world do not move rapidly to “net zero” and then beyond, this beautiful world of ours will become increasingly uninhabitable.
