A friend of ours heard whispers of inadequate fire safety in her estate when a neighbours place burnt down – mix of terraces and duplexes. They were doing some internal renovations, so decided to get an inspection done which involved opening up walls and ceilings. It cost them a couple of hundred, and it revealed that there were no fire collars and the insulation around the switches was missing plus something else. The doors weren’t fire proof either. They did the fire collars as the relevant walls were open, but left the rest as it would have cost them a couple of thousand including redecorating. They’ve since sold and moved, as it’ll come to light some time and they worried the estate would have a black mark going forward.
What is wrong with apartments in Ireland? Why is the fire safety so crap? 17 000 sounds like massive deficits
They’ll tell people to just sleep under a fire blanket.

Serious question, what happens if you own the unit but can’t afford to pay this?
What realistically can be done to force you to pay?
For example in [this instance](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thejournal.ie/metropolitan-apartments-fire-codes-5730066-Apr2022/%3famp=1)
17000 per unit is frankly absurd
It’s going to become as bad as Mica / pyrite.
