I could be crazy but I don’t think tariffs would hit a resale store that aggressively. They tend to be the past season product from the main outlet stores.
I wonder how this will effect second hand sales like poshmark and eBay.
That looks like a Homegoods.
As much as I think tariffs WILL hit these stores, Homegoods regularly goes through empty or sparse shelving issues in certain departments like shoes.
Most or all of their merch is seconds, so it’s filled by inventory already here that would not sell elsewhere.
EDIT: LOL I completely missed that OP listed the store name as Burlingtons. So def. Not a Homegoods, but the same type of store. Burlington sources most of their stock from US middlemen, so this is almost certainly not tariff related.
Empty shelves at our Burlington Coat Factory too in Massachusetts.
I see this kind of thing at Ross especially often. I don’t think this is tariff fallout.
Not to say it isn’t coming, it sure as hell is.
Yes, a random picture of a random Burlington’s tells us all we need to know.
“Maybe you should have 2 pairs of shoes instead of 30 and that 2 pairs will cost a couple of bucks more”
Walmart is packed with inventory
Yeah I wouldn’t go to Burlington to buy shoes.
That doesn’t make sense.
Go to Macys in Hillsdale they have clearance Shoes and Sandles for $20.
Yea, this isn’t due to tarrifs lmao. That’s not how the business model of Burlington works.
Mother’s day cleanout. Tariffs will hit and we will know when it does.
That’s unless people bought a lot of extra shoes to beat the tariffs and the company underordered shoes because of the tariffs.
I work for a similar retailer and we have literally more shoes flowing in than ever before. Looks to me like this location is just struggling processing inventory out to the sales floor.
Idiotic post
Bullshit.
There is always Goodwill
That’s not from tariffs
Look at you, just like the Soviet Union back in ‘88.
Thoughts and prayers for your trickle down.
Is this because people are panic buying asinine shit?
Looks like rolling inventory at Marshall’s, Burlington or Ross. The inventory they get is pallets of usual overstock and returns. That are put out middle of the week. Take photos on Wednesday or Thursday. Not defending the tariff BS, but let’s keep facts over fake outrages.
Yes, Burlington here in W Texas is looked sad.
The older and larger store was ok until after Easter. Some sections like seasonal clothing are full and they are putting out more. The towel section is usually full of all kinds of colors. This weekend one entire side was white, and all the colors were on the other side, but looking picked over.
The newer and smaller store by the freeway is looking better, but there are gaps, like in the health and beauty area. I think it will look worse after Mother’s Day, because they have really done all displays of anything floral or pastel.
Ross, on the other hand, is pretty packed and they are putting new stuff out in all sections.
I get the point but seems a little dramatic to link this photo to tariffs with such certainty.
Lmfao. Who buys shoes like that in a “recession”?? That’s not a necessity.
They will do anything to play with our minds.
But bags of potatoes. I we are sent into another recession caused by the boomers, potatoes. You can do so much with potato.

Relying on the government is such a dangerous thing to do.
Hoarding spam, tuna, canned veg, canned pears, paraffin, butane stove, batteries for the shortwave.
Hoarding TP is for amateurs.
This is why Trump is going to strike a deal with China, imagine Target and Walmart soon? Lot’s of people are going to be out of work. MAGA
Weird. I work for Kohl’s distribution center. We are working 6 days over time this week.
They just announced opening 9 new department stores as well….all our freight comes straight from overseas.
Once I notice a decline in volume, then I’d question it. But I’m not worried.
nothing to do with tariffs, if anyting there will be an influx of goods since every cargo ship was rushed in at the end of march. they dont instantly hit shelves.
Not yet. You won’t even notice the products at first. They will move product around to fill the holes. But even that isn’t for weeks really.
What you will notice is a lot of new people at work who used to be freight drivers. And then store closures. Probably dollar stores will be first to go. Followed by chains that overexpanded, then chains that were struggling with debt. Banks that lent to those, and to their landlords follow maybe next year.
What the heck are the mods doing? Is this r/economy or r/funny?
The company I work for sells to Burlington and their buyers have acted like the tariffs don’t exist and refuse to pay higher prices. Seems to be their strategy to “wait it out”.
Burlington buys from vendors (mostly American), they don’t import goods. So the only tariff impact to them would be indirect (their vendors charging more or having limited inventory). Companies like them are actually in a better position compared to their vendors.

Maybe a staffing issue ?
