  7. Academists of political science are trying to get a grasp on what Hungary’s form of state truly is.
    In reality, Hungary never practiced liberal democracy, thus why it has noo roots/memories here, it just happened to knock at our doorstep in 1990 hand-in-hand with capitalism.
    It is hard to describe the system today, multiple terminologies and concepts compete, one of them is Balint Magyar’s mafia state. Some scholars may call it hybrid regime, others could name it autocracy.
    The point is that the traditional terminology and conceptualization of (western/liberal/capitalist/etc) political science cannot be applied to Hungary today.
    Different historical, cultural motifs play roles, there is a fucking big gap in economic thinking (Hungarians still get to paid monthly, not weekly as in western countries), uncertainty in the origins of our identities (on a large scale).

  10. Sorry, but that article is rubbish, can’t believe they call that journalism. All it contains are allegations and unsubstantiated claims, with zero supporting evidence. Also, it does not say, that Hungary is a Mafia state. It isn’t. Ukraine and Russia, however, very clearly are.

  14. Look, Orbán is a cunt

    I don’t like him, a lot of people in Budapest don’t like him

    Is there corruption here? Yes. Is it more/a lot more than Bulgaria/Romania/Serbia/other eastern/balkans country? No.

    That being said, a lot of the grievances of his more reasonable voters are real. Concerning the handling of the 2008 recession that gave Orban the chance to seize power, or the mistakes in the privatisation/pro market turn of the economy in the early 90s

    Pains me to say, but people voted for Orban, and they liked his vision.

    Orbán should fucking lose and be forgotten for good but for that to happen the opposition (and by extension the opposition voters/activists, maybe even I, have to address real issues that a lot of people face and right now think only Orbán can solve)

    and as for your sources, much of r/hungary and the hungarian media is fuming about the arrogance of Budapest people who do not see the realities of the country and you link a conversation with someone who has hungarian roots but is actually american….she has no fucking clue about anything, she should just shut up. But that is not how the media works, she can claim to be an expert and people will belive him because she is “Hunagarian”.

    So, avoid that propaganda.

    This place is under a bit of stress right now, but we might change that, she won’t do shit. She won’t even understand what’s going on.

    like, there is a lot of media bias, but 90% of people get their news from the state TV like in Russia, get the fuck out of here….this is not even close to reality, etc…this is truly stupid
