  1. What happened to that free market idea USA used to have?

  2. how about tax breaks for film and tv productions in California to get the hollywood jobs back in Los Angeles.

  3. Yeah how about not. Let them pay their own bills

  4. And who does he propose will pay this outrageous bailout? Not me, I hope.

  5. I really don’t like how the man says something insane and then people sit around and talk about it like it’s not an insane idea.

  6. He’s looking for the a bit of advertising for himself. He’s so late on doing this.

  7. How about no tax breaks for any big corporations who already have plenty of profits?

  8. Cool cool but all the universities in California are facing multi million dollar deficits

  9. Actually do it before there is no one left to work in the industry

  10. So they can make like 3 big studio movies with that

  11. This isn’t about money, it’s about control. 2025 wants everything filmed here with government officials on set for propaganda purposes.

  12. This is the fundamental reason republicans and democrats are different.

Democrats want to tax people and reward others with that money. In this case giving it to the film industry. California could lower taxes and create an environment that is conducive to film making. But the policies that they have implemented have caused the problem.

Republicans would rather not tax individuals and give their money away. So a tariff on the resultant product will incentivize film makers to make the product here. If they choose to make it elsewhere they are free to do that. The film makers will pay the price rather than the public.

  13. Trump don’t care about the movie industry. This whole thing is just him trying to squeeze other countries like everything else he’s been doing.

It’s just pushing his lie that the rest of the world owes the US a debt and now has to pay.

  14. Reddit has reacted really strongly to these tariffs but I am not sure everyone understands the actual reasoning here.

There have been a lot of articles recently about the lack of film/tv production in California and more broadly, in the entire US.

Rob Lowe is hosting a game show right now called The Floor. It was filmed entirely in Ireland. All the US guests are shipped over there to compete. Ireland, like a lot of places, it giving massive tax incentives. Plus a show like The Floor is considered easy to replicate so it is actually a co-production with Ireland (who I guess are doing their own version, not sure of the host).

Trump already had Voigt, Gibson and Stallone as his Hollywood “advisors.” They are all Trumpers. The lack of LA productions is a serious issue and I am sure they have been telling Trump more needs to be produced in LA. Trump loves tariffs, so tariffs are the answer.

This isn’t about foreign films, it is about US productions being made overseas. I think it would be fairly easy to implement on films (Ticket costs $10, Tariff is $10 = $20 for consumers). TV seems a bit harder.

Tariffs are inherently regressive. Working class people spend most of their money, so working class people pay a higher percentage of their income in sales tax and tariffs. Wealthy people save/invest more, so the tariffs are less burdensome.

  15. As always, money for big business, no money to help the employees, big business is exploiting.
