The support of Sweden and the EU for Moldova’s European path reflects the common commitment to the defense of democracy, freedom and European values, Swedish Minister for European Affairs Jessica Rosencrantz told a press conference in Chisinau on Tuesday, IPN reports.
The Swedish official noted that Moldova has never been more integrated into the EU market than now. Jessica Rosencrantz praised the country’s efforts to become part of the EU’s roaming zone. She also welcomed its resilience in the face of hybrid attacks and the energy crisis.
The minister also said that a direct flight from Chisinau to Stockholm will be launched in June.
The Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, Cristina Gherasimov, said at the same press conference that the EU is more than an economic and political space, it is an anchor of peace. Sweden is an example for Moldova to follow.
According to Cristina Gherasimov, the visit of the Swedish Foreign Minister to Chisinau is a very strong signal that Moldova is not alone and has reliable partners in its European path.
Jessica Rosencrantz is visiting Moldova on May 6-7.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of Sweden were established on June 12, 1992. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Swedish government has significantly increased its support for Moldova’s rapprochement with the EU.
