Germany: 37120 new cases, highest number since the start of the pandemic. Health department considers the situation extremely concerning

  1. Does anyone have a breakdown of these cases by age group?

In the UK since we removed all restrictions in July we have seen cases get to these sort of levels. Initially the growth was in the 20-30 age group due to lower vaccination levels but these have gone back to relatively low levels. The high levels now are caused by the 10-20 age group as schools started back at the start of September.

Other age groups have gone up especially the group covering the parents of school children but outside of that its not been anywhere near as bad as it was at the start of the year. We are getting more deaths and hospitalisations but again nothing like we have seen before.

Fingers crossed this is just a blip Germany and it will settle down quickly.

  2. Europe needs to import some of that combative spirit the Israelis have and roll out a third dose for general use for those at 6+ months since the last vaccination. Yes, some people will find it disconcerting that they are getting a third shot, but this seems to also limit virus transmission.

  3. number of cases should be meaningless, if they are vaccinated, small chance they go into hospital.

  4. From what I read from DW news there’s a huge-ish percentage of older people still unvaccinated (most not wanting to get the vaccines)

  5. Doesn’t help that we are in-between governments either.

The old health minister switched from “Pandemic has ended” 2 weeks ago to “very concerning pandemic” yesterday.

The new one is not decided yet.

  6. My question is, why are the vaccination rates so “low”? Germany is one of the most developed countries in Europe, they shouldn’t have any (economic, at least) problems to vaccinate their people

  7. And we go again.. at least you guys don’t have it as bad as Baltic countries do right now. Health care system is collapsing in Estonia right now..

  8. To be honest though that’s not a lot Germany. Welcome to the post pandemic era, if you fold and go for restrictions then that is just gonna be life forever..

  9. Corona is still a thing? I haven’t been following the news for some months and aside from mandatory masks and vaccinations there is almost no impact on the daily routine anymore.

  10. Germany has more cases than the UK now; the German one is still growing whereas the UK’s look like its well and truly on the downward slope.

I wonder if the UK’s defacto herd immunity strategy since Freedom Day has actually worked; almost 4 million cases in 4 months, primarily, amongst the least vaccinated young people who are typically super spreaders. This seemed to have avoided the same cohorts being infected in a shorter time period over the winter, along with the other seasonal illnesses threatening to overwhelm hospitals.

  11. I my workplace only about 5 people (almost a hundred employees there) wear masks on a regular basis and every time I hear the people there talk about masks and vaccinations I just want to kill myself…

“It’s not so bad”; “I want to see long term study’s about the vaccine”; “It’s overblown”; “Masks don’t archive anything”; “Breathing is so difficult with a mask”.

    I hate this…
