As it says above, and am I throwing money away?

I was very nervous on my first test. Then I thought I was doing well on the second test until a car showed up during my left reverse, I kept my foot on the foot break and never used the handbrake so it didn’t get counted as stopping. Feeling very deflated, I’ve done countless driving lessons, and each fail doesn’t get any easier. I never make such mistakes on the lessons. I’m booked in again next week, and kind of regretting the decision each time I look at my results. It’s too late to cancel or reschedule the test though. Should I stick to the one pre-lesson or book in another one or two?

Please no negativity. I’ve put a lot of money into learning to drive and I’m trying to stay confident despite this.

  1. Your instructor is the best person to advise you if you’re ready. If they say you’re ready, then you’re ready. Try to think of it as a only a little drive around, because that’s what it is.

  2. I would just go for it – failing your driving test doesn’t mean you’re a bad driver, anyone can be unlucky on the day. I failed my first driving test (over 30 years ago so nowhere near as tough as they are now) spectacularly, got a cancellation and passed a week later, no issues.

  3. Go for it. I failed mine, managed to get a slot the next day and passed. Personally I felt like a short turn around stopped the worry building up the test again

  4. Your instructor knows you best and will let you know when you’re ready.
I failed my first test and instantly went back into it and passed the second time, sometimes you can just get unlucky during a test for me it wasn’t bad luck I had one dangerous which was a right turn to a big roundabout which I accept and have learned from since.
Keep at it you will get there.

  5. yes, work on your failings for a few hours, videos and some practical time

  6. I know everyone’s saying go for it but did you get 22 minors and 2 serious? That is quite a lot. Perhaps just very nervous but I would talk to your instructor and see if you should do a few more lessons.

  7. Took me three goes back to back. All within the space of three weeks! It’s a scam! Get it knocked out.
