We paid 15,000 a year for our son’s childcare in St. Gallen.
I’m glad future parents get more support.
The only thing missing now is the abolition of the marriage penalty.
Childfree woman here and FINALLY
So tired of seeing women being forced to give up their careers due to the expense of childcare. Tired of seeing families stretched in general…
Now please get rid of the marriage penalty sooner rather than later!!
I may have misunderstood this but note it says 100 chf/day – CORRECTION month. What’s the typical rate range for child care?
Yes and now daycare will increase of exactly the same amount!
Is this only for kita or does this include public school Hort?
I hope prices will drop for parents, but I’m concerned that providers will simply raise prices since the new subsides mean everyone is able to still spend what they were spending before PLUS the subsidy. Am I mistaken? Are there any mechanisms to prevent this?
“Yes, our prices went up, but you can ofcourse claim the childcare credit (available next year), so actually they haven’t gone up at all!”
Not to sound greedy, but 100 CHF/month will be unnoticeable.
A whole 200 million CHF? That’s like 20 kids taken care of!
The project is to be presented as an indirect counter-proposal to the Social Democrats’ popular initiative on crèches, which seeks to guarantee every child, from the age of three months until the end of basic education, a place in a crèche or an after-school or extra-curricular childcare facility. The dossier will now go back to the Senate.
I hope this initiative succeeds. Our children are our future. Let’s make sure Switzerland doesn’t become a hellhole for low income families who want to work and have children.
100 fr, plus 50 for each half day, so total of 600 for full time per month. This currently costs me around 3000 per month for one child, so it’s better than nothing but still it’s only 20%
And no way is per day allowance. I think now
Child care allowance are in the 300 CHF per month.
They will pay 500.-month. That’s nothing.
From reading the article it seems that it is 100 plus the amount of half days X 50. So about 600 per month. A couple of things that are unclear/worry me:
1. Why extending it to the age of 8? With free school in CH, certainly the real support is needed up to the age of 4. Most of the money will actually be spent on 4+ as the school is mandatory and goes for 8 half days.
2. The real benefit of paying it after 4 is to cover the absurdity of Wednesdays off. It is a discriminatory policy as creates the incentive for working 80% – often for woman – when the salaries are not high enough to justify paying for help or activities. But if the point is helping pay for Wednesdays, should not end at 8.
3. Seems unfair, given the amount of people rejected by public crèches (particularly in large towns), that the pay is related to the attendance of a crèche.
