  8. The military despises Trump and won’t follow him if it isn’t necessary.

    That’s why he and his people have been cutting “top brass” from their positions.

    But that has been progressively turning loyalty, to apathy to hatred amongst all the rank and file military members.

    The only exceptions might be very, very new young recruits.

    Everyone else in the military is pissed at him and waiting for one legitimate reason (by military standards) to turn on him.

    Even then, many are drawing their personal lines to define when they’ll decide that as a member of the military a “coup” is a better choice than “this”.

    Intelligence is one thing. But Trump will ignite civil war between military, militia, civilians and ICE before he manages any sort of fight abroad.

  12. Spying on what? The US has the only major military instillation on the island. Does he want daily reports on how many people went into the general store on the largest town every day? How many times the arctic researcher paced around his cabin?

  15. Physically the US could easily occupy the city and port, turn off the internet and electricity, make everyone vote to join the US at gunpoint and burn most of the no votes.

    Then Trump holds a big press conferance and announces greenland is a us territory now.

    The problem is that then you have to face the backlash.

    I imagine a lot of the world halt almost all travel and trade with the US, condemn them.

    People in the US would go on a general strike even if they aren’t part of any union. Like everyone protests on the street instead of going to work, effectively shutting down traffic for people who do still try to work and grinding the entire country to a halt.

    Trump might try to use the military against the crowd but I suspect most of them would just stay home and call in sick. Maybe flee to Canada. They know that shit ain’t right.

    I feel like Trump is high on his own supply here, he only has around 25% support for annexing anything. MAGA die hards and that’s it.

    Trump hasn’t done a very good job of explaining why the US needs greenland. The US already has a military base there, the US doesn’t need to annex greenland in order to use it as a military logistics hub.

    Greenland is ~50,000 people, some rocks and a lot of ice.

    No offence to Greenland but given the potential backlash it doesn’t seem worth annexing to me.

  33. Dumb question : why would greenland make it so easy for US to have a military camp on it’s land? Why not asking them to leave?
    I understand that they just could say no and greenland couldn’t do anything to move them but they couod use that to justify larger mesure against them like asking them a bigger rent, passing law to limit their range of action etc…

    Why leaving them acting like asshole without retaliations?
