  1. So why do we have so many attempted terror attacks let alone ones making it to late stage in this country?

  2. If a mosque has any links to extremist individuals it should be shut down with immediate effect.

  3. >The Government has also faced pressure to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a terrorist organisation.

Putting aside the main title and point of the article, this is worth discussing.

[The legal definition of ‘terrorism’](https://www.cps.gov.uk/crime-info/terrorism) is already insanely wide in the UK such that any non-state armed actor or even a very disruptive group that does sabotage could be considered ‘terroristic’. Proscriptions are purely political, and most groups that would qualify as ‘terrorists’ aren’t on the list because they’re not opposing British strategic interests as the state defines them. We’re allied to groups that would easily fit in this definition. It’s obviously broad on purpose to give the state more strategic autonomy to ban support for whatever group they want, basically. Hell, nowdays they even proscribe NON-VIOLENT groups like Hizb ut-Tahrir (obviously I disagree with them but it was a nonsensical proscription done by the Tories to look tough on Israel/Palestine because they lacked the legal authority to end the peaceful protests).

Putting a state actor on the list would overhaul even that. The IRGC is, of course, part of the Iranian Armed Forces. If they’re a terrorist group then it’s hard to see how *every state in the world* isn’t one by the same definition. You think it’s only Iran that covertly meddles overseas? Don’t be naive.

It would just close off routes of diplomacy with Iran for no good reason other than to make the Americans happy. Why are the IRGC a ‘terrorist group’ but not MI6, Mossad, the CIA, the American Armed Forces, etc etc? Once you get into calling state institutions ‘terrorist’ you lose any conceptual boundary.

Frankly I think the term ‘terrorist’ is conceptually and ontologically incoherent already, but that’s another discussion altogether.

  4. Dawg they got anything better to do than cause misery on others?

That being said props to our counter terrorism force.

  5. What percentage of those plots were Islamist Jihadi plots you reckon?

  6. Shoutout to the people stopping these attacks from happening. People will just hate here but the fact these attacks are thwarted and we almost never hear about it is a good thing (obviously it is better if they didn’t almost happen in the first place)

  7. I’m guessing these are stopped in the later stages as, for the police, there’s more evidence to put against them
In court and are therefore more likely to be found guilty. They’ll obviously assess and once it reaches a point where the public are likely to be at risk, they swoop.

  8. The public generally doesn’t know the half of it, I’m always on here saying we need MUCH much more firearms units and officers across the UK yet all the recent media as you can tell are decreasing numbers in the droves though that’s policing as a whole tbh.

Probably controversial as people will just think “American” but were absolutely overdue a proper federal police that does this stuff nation wide under one roof rather than the MET being the command on top of their own local duties so to speak.

That said I could moan all day about this stuff I’ll take the time again to say we’re lucky the CT police officers the UKSF guys and MI5 intelligence where all om the ball for this recent bunch of arrests.

  9. I wonder how many thousands have to watched constantly.

  10. Assuming the majority are Islamic, it’s interesting to think that had these attacks been allowed through, the public’s view of migration, specifically Islamic migration, would probably be considerably more inclement and we would probably as a country have quickly moved to slow down and stop migration from Islamic countries. So by foiling these attacks we have possibly led to an increase in the frequency of them being attempted in the future. Sheltering the populace from the horror of Islamic extremism has made it easier to turn a blind eye to it.

  11. Those pesky white far right. Oh wait, it’s the religion of hate and death again. You know the one that hates everything but then plays victims when you point it out.

When are we going to have a serious conversation about removing islam from our countries? How does anyone anywhere benefit the death cult?

  12. Although without any form of transparency (where are the “dozens” of criminal trials for these terrorists?) and the vague timescale (“recent years”) the motivation behind making statements like this becomes suspect. I’m strongly of the opinion that while ongoing investigations and actions rightly remain secret, they should be as transparent as possible after-the-fact, just as with any other criminal matter.

Is this the prelude to some new legislation, a bid for more funding, launch of some reorganisation…? Politicians very rarely say anything to the press without an agenda.

  13. “Saved” is an odd word given the Government are the reason there’s several late stage terror attacks that need to be foiled in the first place.

  14. Dear Muslim jihadis, please stop. Let’s just talk it out over some tea.
