  1. A wildlife charity has warned of the dangers of accidental wildfires after a disposable barbecue caused a fire the size of two rugby pitches in the Trossachs, killing hundreds of nesting birds.

Woodland Trust Scotland said the fire killed nesting birds and other wildlife in the Glen Finglas region of the national park on Saturday. When it was put out firefighters found a disposable barbecue with a charred burger on top.

Glen Finglas is the biggest Woodland Trust site in the UK. It lies at the heart of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park and is part of the Great Trossachs Forest National Nature Reserve.

  2. Not the first, won’t be the last.

I’ve said it for years – these dafties need a day long seminar on how to use passing places, not leave bin bags on the side of the road and HOW NO TO SET FIRE TO THE F*CKIN PLACE!!

  3. Look at the surrounding flora, why the hell would you think thats a safe place to use one of these??

  4. Disposable barbecues absolutely need banned. They are not worth the risk

  5. They already have a camping ban unless you are in a designated area with a booking in large parts of the trossachs, shit like this is going to give them more ammo to further restrict us.

I know most people here know how to behave, and that most of us even go so far to take out rubbish that wasnt ours in the first place, and we accept that not as a chore but as a necessity and a responsibility.

This wasnt just a lack of common sense, but absolute disregard for the the environment they were in.

I have no idea what the solution to this is, and am genuinely worried about the few eejits ruining it for the rest of us.

LLTNP board members look at shit like this and rub their hands with glee when writing the proposal to the Scottish government to further restrict access and fuk with Right to Roam.

  6. disposable barbecues are a perpetual hazard. People don’t appreciate the amount of heat they put out onto surfaces they’re sitting on.

They can crack stone slabs, and burn any grass or timber they’re set down on.

And then once they’re done, they don’t extinguish them. The coals need to be soaked in water to make sure they’re completely out. No residual heat.

Too many people just do daft things like toss the coals away, as if spreading them puts them out, or burying the thing under a thin layer of sand, or putting it in a bin where it sets fire to all the bags of dug poop.

People need to be responsible, and read the instructions on the damn things.
