In a recent podcast interview, Princess Eugenie shared why her late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, always chose to wear bright, vibrant colors.

Eugenie and sister Princess Beatrice appeared on the Lessons from Our Mothers show—which was hosted by Prince Harry’s ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas—and paid ample tribute to the late Queen, who died in September 2022.

They also honored their mother, Sarah Ferguson, for teaching them about the importance of service.

During her long lifetime, Queen Elizabeth was known for her bright, vibrant wardrobe—and her granddaughter Princess Eugenie is opening up about the meaningful reason why the late Queen “always wore color.”

On the May 3 episode of the Lessons from Our Mothers podcast—hosted by cousin Prince Harry’s ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas—Eugenie said that the most valuable lesson she learned from the Queen “would probably be how you show up for people, how you show up for your work [and] for your charities, for the people that really need to see you.”

“She always wore color,” Eugenie added, per Us Weekly. “I remember seeing pictures of her wearing every color of the rainbow, and that’s because she really believed that you needed to see her.”

Of the Queen, who died on September 8, 2022 at 96 years old, “She was a symbol for so many of hope and of such dedication and duty,” Eugenie continued. “One of the biggest lessons was the fact that, if you say you’re going to do something, you show up and are there and are happy [and] you’re willing to give as much as people are giving for you, as well.” She added, “She led by such example of duty and what that means to really dedicate yourself to others.”

Eugenie added that, two-and-a-half years after her death, she asks herself frequently “What would Granny do?”: “Beatrice and I talk about it all the time, like, the memories, and it brings tears to your eyes thinking about all the joy that she created for so many people,” Eugenie said of her older sister, Princess Beatrice. “I think when Granny was alive, I shared her with the world. She was a part of everybody. And then, when she died, I felt the closest I ever felt to her and the fact that she was my Granny.”

She continued, “Gone are the days of people and women like my grandmother,” adding, “She really did show up all the time. Now, it’s so easy for people to cancel [or] say no. To uphold those values that she stood by, I’m honored that piece of her lives through me.”

Eugenie also said she admired Queen Elizabeth’s “way she could disarm a room with her smile or her wit, her humor and her kindness.”

Beatrice also appeared on the show, sharing a glimpse inside the $4.6 million Cotswolds home she shares with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and their children. Eugenie said of their mother, Sarah Ferguson, that “She’s always kept us so grounded. When you feel bad about yourself and the world, you give back to others. And Beatrice and I, from little, have always gone with Mum on all her charity work, and that is so integral to her as a human.”

“That was something she’s instilled in us from a very early age—to give back,” Eugenie added, per Us Weekly.

The same day the podcast episode aired, Eugenie wished her husband Jack Brooksbank a happy 39th birthday on Instagram, writing, “Happy Birthday to my hero. Gosh it’s been 14 years and every birthday gets better as our family grows.”
