Hi fellas!
I got a friend who’s going potentially to live in Waterford because of her job. She doesn’t use Reddit.
She’s worried about the cost of living and if her salary would be enough to live there. She’s never lived in Ireland or Europe and I’ve tried to help her as I know a little, at least living in England.
She’s checked [Numbeo](https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/in/Waterford) as I did and I would like to ask how accurate is this for you? Mostly with utility bills (basic). Looking at a couple of services supplier’s websites I don’t know how to estimate that, assuming a small apartment (or what she can find as a single person). I’ve seen a couple of posts and numbers vary from household to household(from 80E to 130E for electricity only or 120E for gas & electricity), also not knowing where they’re living.
Also, I’m not sure if I read and searched well, Could be that to live around the city centre of Waterford is difficult to find apartments for single people? And that they’re expensive as well? Is [rentberry.com](https://rentberry.com) reliable?
If there is some single person or that has lived recently alone there with an estimate of how much would cost to live there (just the basic stuff, we can estimate costs for the entertaining part), and how difficult could be for a foreigner to be accepted for a rental (how hard are the estate agencies asking for referrals, how much can they ask her for a deposit..), would be helpful. As well, I don’t know how much council tax does she need to add to the sum.
If there’s someone from there, could you also mention how’s the town, how diverse or not they are, how open with people from other countries they are, would also add some light to this hard decision for her very first time in her life 🙂
pd. Sorry for any grammar mistakes

We have a housing crisis at the moment so both buying and renting is difficult and expensive. Daft.Ie is the most common site used and can help give you a good estimate.
The housing crisis is bad right now, theres hundreds of people applying to view each house/apartment. A lot of the time you dont hear back from your enquiries. I can only say about dublin as that’s where we are but looking at the costs it’s not that much cheaper around most places in ireland now. So our rent is 1600 and the deposit was also 1600. Some can ask for a higher deposit and rent.ie or daft are good bases to look at. Also check public transport if your friend isnt going to have a car because not all areas are great for public transport, this applies to the further out you go from the city centre. A single person would have no chance if they were on minimum wage or just above for paying that rent thous, as well as bills and food?its hard. The gas and electric Bill’s are also going up by almost up to 40%. Cost of food and everything else is also pretty expensive I’m sorry to say 🙁 I dont think I’ve been much help but I’ve also lived in england and the cost of living was cheaper. Ireland you have to pay for doctors, ambulance if you need it, hospital admission. Paracetamol is usually 1.80 or there abouts in tesco compared to 30p in b&ms in england. Medicine here in general is very expensive 🙁
