Accommodation for asylum seekers will cost the taxpayer triple the amount the Home Office first claimed, according to new figures.

Contracts signed by the Conservative government in 2019 were expected to see £4.5bn of public cash paid to three companies over a 10-year period.

But a report by spending watchdog the National Audit Office (NAO), external says that number is now expected to be £15.3bn.

  7. This just isn’t sustainable. I don’t want my tax money being spent on welcoming the 3rd world with open arms and supplementing their Deliveroo wages with free accommodation, priority healthcare and whatever fucking benefit the UK government throws at them.

    The government need to leave the ECHR and turn these boats back.

    Those laws were not designed for *economic migrants* to have a free divine right to go to any country they want to and exploit it.

    Tories screwed the system so hard over the last 15 years, economic migrants are jamming the system with abusive appeals, and Labour are struggling to make positive headlines quickly.

  14. Meanwhile people working full time jobs, worked all their adult life are sat in moldy flats at over inflated prices because they can`t even afford their own 2 bed semi house. When did we let it get so horribly wrong with our priorities? Is looking good on the world stage really worth sacrificing your native peoples standard of life for? Is it really that important what a few leaders in suits think about us? Can we vote on where we want OUR money spent please? Doesn`t seem too unreasonable to me, after all, they were voted in to work for US at the end of the day.
